“It’s not just an obligation: It’s a passion.”

Dr. Pruett on Discovering a New Passion in Airway Dentistry

This week on Vivos Voices, we visited with Dr. Elise Pruett, a passionate general dentist and a trained Vivos Integrated Provider (VIP). When Dr. Pruett attended her first Vivos Therapeutics, Inc. meeting, she had no idea just how transformative it would be to integrate sleep and airway into her practice.

“I was hooked immediately. I knew this is something I have to do. There are airway concerns of people in my own life—my dad, my sister—it just started clicking. It’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is what’s been going on the whole time.’”

This realization is a common occurrence for many VIPs, and once you know, you know. The relationship between dentistry and the development of our jaws, sleep, and airway plays a significant role in our overall health and wellness. And having a healthy, fully developed airway is key to maintaining a healthy, happy life.

Today, Dr. Pruett has the tools to give her patients the best, most advanced care possible. “If you’ve dabbled in airway at all, you already know that you’re seeing these things and that you need to talk about them. To have multiple options for you to be the one to help that patient feels really good, and I think that we have a responsibility to do that, but I am also excited about it. It’s not just an obligation: It’s a passion.”

My name is Dr. Elise Pruitt. I own a practice in Coppell, Texas, which is my hometown, and it’s called Coppell Heritage Dentistry. And I’m a general dentist office, and I started it from scratch four years ago. So, a couple years ago, I went to a meeting, my very first Vivos meeting, and I didn’t really know what it was about. So it started off at a really basic level, and I was hooked immediately. I knew this is something I have to do, and there are airway concerns of people in my own life—my dad, my sister—it just started clicking like, oh my gosh, this is what’s been going on the whole time. I just want you to have help. I want you to breathe. I want you to sleep. I want you to live longer. I want you to have these valuable things in your life. I was really excited that there was, there were people who were teaching you what to do and helping you implement something that we all know needs to happen, and we just didn’t know how to make it happen. If you’ve dabbled in airway at all, you already know that you’re seeing these things and that you need to talk about them. And to have multiple options for you to be the one to help that patient feels really good, and I think that we have a responsibility to do that, but I also am so excited about it. It’s not just an obligation. It’s a passion. So, I loved that this is something I could help my own family with. It has been so easy from the, I went to a meeting, and then I went to another meeting, and then I went to another meeting, and every time I got more and more excited, and it’s convicting. It’s like I have to do this. And the people who work at Vivos are all wonderful. And they’re really encouraging, and they’re really supportive. The whole time they have just kept pushing, and what can we do for you and, and I’m so thankful that they have been with me just along the way, encouraging the entire time.
