[Vivos] has changed the way I do my job by having a more comprehensive view of the patient, not just teeth.

Dr. Garcia DePalma on Vivos and the Signs of Obstructive Sleep Apnea

This week on Vivos Voices, we visited with Dr. Garcia DePalma, a talented dentist and Vivos Integrated Provider practicing in Denton, Texas.

Dr. Garcia DePalma started her partnership with Vivos in the summer of 2019 and began delivering cases at the beginning of 2020—just as COVID hit. Since then, she has dove into providing her patients whose treatment statuses are pending with the care they need and making sure they are screened for OSA.

With more comprehensive methods for OSA screening, she has made sure that patients are not wrongfully diagnosed. One patient, who was diagnosed with moderate OSA, came back with an AHI of 4 after a home sleep test. Another’s CBCT scan follow-up clearly showed how narrow her airway was and indicated OSA.

Dr. Garcia DePalma has seen a significant difference in her patients’ health. “General quality of life is highly improved. They are dreaming vividly. All of my patients’ headaches are gone. Every single one of them,” she said. “The blood pressures are all within normal, and that’s just amazing to see.

I’m Dr. Marissa Garcia DePalma and I practice in Denton, Texas. I’ve been a VIP provider since the summer of 2019, so I started delivering cases at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020. And That’s when COVID hit, so I’m now getting into cases that are pending treatment.

One particular case, the patient was diagnosed with moderate obstructive sleep apnea and after her home sleep study, she came back with an AHI of 4, which basically is no sleep apnea. I have another patient whose CBCT follow-up, you could see it with your own eyes. You talk about the airway with a coffee-straw size, and we want the garden hose. You can see that in hers as well.

General quality of life is highly improved. They are dreaming vividly. All of my patients’ headaches are gone. Every single one of them. The blood pressures are all within normal, and that’s just amazing to see. It has changed the way I do my job by having a more comprehensive view of the patient, not just teeth. And looking for root causes and trying to get to the bottom of the root causes.

I highly recommend that other dentists look into learning more about Vivos. It can change your practice. You can do so much more to help treat your patients—so, very exciting and I’m very pleased about the treatment outcomes.
