Dr. Todd Auerbach on Helping Patients

This week on Vivos Voices, we visited with Dr. Todd Auerbach, a phenomenal dentist and trained Vivos Integrated Provider (VIP).

Perhaps one of the greatest achievements of this decade is understanding the role of Western culture in the development of the orofacial structure. We’ve found that a lack of breastfeeding, an abundance of mouth breathing, and the soft food diet have caused children to fall short in their development. There is no such thing as a narrow, small mouth. Instead, the body wants to grow but can’t without the proper push. While it is excellent to understand this now, we still are faced with the consequence of a sleeping epidemic.

In his interview, Dr. Auerbach described how “most people have an issue with an underdeveloped jaw, which can lead to crowded teeth, jaw issues, and airway issues. Basically, in the mouth, as far as dentally and orally what we see can be related to improper sleep by crowded teeth. That means there’s less room for the tongue.”

The good news is that we have a solution. “The Vivos Treatment has been tremendous for our patients,” said Dr. Auerbach. “Things we get, even with a week of treatment, is I can breathe through both sides of my nose. Dreaming is another one. Actually, one patient was so freaked out because their dreams were so vivid and real that they hadn’t experienced [that] before—just from getting better sleep.”

The Vivos Method is a comprehensive approach to dentistry, complete with an at-home sleep test and innovative, easy-to-implement treatment. It provides a new outlook on life, one where the patient is happier, healthier, and able to breathe and sleep efficiently and effectively.

“If someone is thinking about bringing Vivos into their practice, once you know something, you can’t unknow it, and once you know that you can help these people, you just gotta do it.”

Hi, I’m Dr. Todd Auerbach. I practice in Yorba Linda, California. That’s north Orange county. A, been there since 1988. Most people have an issue with an underdeveloped jaw, which can lead to crowded teeth, jaw issues, and airway issues. Basically, in the mouth, as far as dentally and orally, what we see can be related to improper sleep by crowded teeth, that means there’s less room for the tongue. Uh, indents on the side of the tongue. Those are all some signs, uh, wear on the teeth are signs that they’re grinding. All of these can be signs of airway issues. The Vivos Treatment has been tremendous for our patients. Things we get, uh, even within a week of treatment is, you know, I can breathe through both sides of my nose. I can walk uphill with my mouth together. I don’t get tired going hiking. There’s a patient who had come back, you know, after a few months and we asked the questions, you know, about what their symptoms were like, you know, how’s your back pain? And you know, and some of them were like, what are you talking about? I don’t have any back pain, so it’s kind of completely gone, and they don’t even remember. So, and then we go, oh remember when we talked about this when we started? Uh, dreaming is another one that uh, they’re like, actually one patient was like freaked out because their dreams were so vivid and real that they hadn’t experienced before just from getting better sleep and getting into the REM. So, if somebody’s thinking about bringing Vivos into their practice, um, it’s like that thing, you know, once you know something, you can’t unknow it. And once you know that you can help these people, you just gotta do it.
