Sleep Deeply. For Good.
The first Oral Appliance Technology FDA-cleared to treat Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Severe Sleep Apnea Deserves Attention
If nightly mask therapy hasn’t worked, it may feel like surgery is the only alternative. Vivos is different. Our FDA-cleared oral appliance offers a non-surgical treatment approach designed to support improved breathing during sleep, without implants or incisions. Some patients may continue to experience benefits after treatment.

Severe Sleep Apnea can Reduce Life Expectancy by up to 10 Years
If you have been diagnosed with moderate or severe OSA, every night without effective treatment matters. But until now, your options have been limited: Nightly mask therapy that many find uncomfortable or impossible to use consistently
- Invasive surgical procedures, including implanted devices that require lifetime management
- Traditional oral appliances that only address mild cases
Real Patient Stories — See What’s Possible
Every case is different, but these real patient journeys show what treatment with the Vivos Method can look like.
Patient Story: Teri
Severe Sleep Apnea → Significant Improvement
Teri’s AHI of 51.9 indicates she experienced frequent breathing interruptions, over 50 times per hour, during sleep. Following treatment, her AHI was reduced to 0. Her experience reflects one patient’s outcome and may not be typical.*
Metric | Value |
|---|---|

Patient Story: Dr. Tara Griffin Journey
A Documented Treatment Journey
Dr. Tara Griffin, a Vivos provider, was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea with an AHI of 24 events per hour. Following treatment, measurable changes were observed over time, including reductions in AHI and changes in dental arch measurements.
Year | Treatment Stage | Jaw Width | AHI | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
2011 | Before Treatment | 31.5mm | 24/hr | Diagnosis of OSA |
2013 | Mid-Treatment | 35.5mm | — | Interval changes observed |
2019 | Post-Treatment | 37.5mm | 2.8/hr | Reduction in AHI following treatment |
Clinical Outcomes
- AHI decreased from 24/hr to 2.8/hr
- Treatment duration: approximately 10–15 months
- Changes in dental arch measurements observed
- Outcomes reflect one patient’s experience
Visual Assets Available
- Before/After facial photographs (0 and 12 months)
- 3D CBCT scan comparisons showing airway changes
- Three time-point face captures (2011, 2013, 2019)
What Is Sleep Apnea?
If nightly mask therapy hasn’t worked, it may feel like surgery is the only alternative. Vivos is different. Think of It Like a Garden Hose
When you sleep, the muscles in your throat relax. For most people, this is no problem. But for millions of people, the throat relaxes too much. It is like stepping on a garden hose, the water (or in this case, air) cannot get through.
This is called sleep apnea. “Apnea” is a Greek word that means “without breath.” When you have sleep apnea, you stop breathing many times each night, sometimes hundreds of times. Each time, your brain wakes you up just enough to start breathing again. You may not remember waking up, but your body never gets the deep rest it needs.
Why Does This Happen?
Many people have jaws and mouths that did not fully develop when they were children. This is more common than you might think, research suggests 9 out of 10 people have some degree of underdevelopment. When your jaw is too small or set too far back, there is not enough room for your tongue. At night, your tongue falls back and blocks your airway.
How Your Airway Works
Your Airway is Like a Tunnel
Think of your airway like a tunnel that goes from your nose and mouth down to your lungs. When the tunnel is wide and open, air flows easily. When the tunnel is narrow or partly blocked, breathing becomes hard work.
Vivos appliances take a different approach; focused on supporting changes that may help improve airflow during sleep. Over time, patients may experience measurable improvements in breathing and sleep quality.

What the Numbers Mean
The AHI Number
Doctors use a number called AHI (Apnea-Hypopnea Index) to measure how bad sleep apnea is. This number tells you how many times per hour your breathing stops or gets very shallow while you sleep.
AHI SCORE | SEVERITY | WHAT IT MEANS |
Less than 5 | Normal | Your breathing is healthy while you sleep |
5-14 | Mild | Your breathing stops 5-14 times per hour |
15-29 | Moderate | Your breathing stops 15-29 times per hour |
30 or more | Severe | Your breathing stops 30+ times per hour |
Know Your Options
In the United States, sleep apnea affects up to 80 million adults and 10 million children. Until recently, patients with severe cases had two choices: wear a mask every night forever, or undergo surgery. Now there’s a third option.
